With a great infrastructure that includes 130 kilometers of authorized trails, Tantauco Park offers to the visitor’s more than 118 thousand hectares of native forest and peatlands, along with a variety of endemic wildlife.
For those who don’t have enough time to explore the park, we offer this full day-trip to hike along the “Sendero Rio Yaldad” trail.
Leaving early from Castro and heading south, we´ll go to the Yaldad area and leave our car to check-in. We start walking at the trail for about a mile into a dense forest predominated by Tepú (Tepualia stipularis) with some Mañio (Sexagothea conspicua) and Coigues (Nothofagus nitida).
After about two hours of walking, we reach the visitor’s center on the banks of the Yaldad lagoon, where we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before returning along the main road towards the car, and then we head back to Castro.
